As our name suggests, Wilderness Running Company is about just one thing. Why?
1. Because we don’t always enjoy hunting through unrelated categories of general outdoor gear to find wilderness running gear. Sometimes it’s fun to visit a big box or “virtual big box” retailer. Often, it’s not.
2. Because wilderness running is more than the crazy uncle of road running. Wilderness running is its own, unique sport, with its own unique values and demands. Both the gear and the people selling the gear should fully account for that reality. Part of our approach is to collect in one place much of the best and best-known trail running gear. Another is to seek out products from innovative, under-the-radar companies.
3. Because there’s more than one type of wilderness runner. At present, wilderness running is closely associated with ultra running. This makes sense for a variety of reasons and we’re all for the continued popularity of that segment of the sport. But we would also like to celebrate and support other types of trail running and racing. In particular, we would love to see a little more adrenaline in the mix. To that end, we will also feature information and products that better serve the needs, and better reflect the sensibility, of shorter, faster trail running formats.
Given the above sentiments, our goal is to make Wilderness Running a place where trail runners of all types can feel confident that they are among likeminded athletes. That somebody really gets them. A place to get information, get inspired, and get gear.
